| so this past weekend was our regional competition for concrete canoe and steel bridge, you can look at our pictures from it here. our canoe got first overall, so we're going to nationals in montreal this summer! we were 1st in the presentation, 1st in the paper, 2nd in the races, and 2nd in the display. our bridge got disqualified for being too short, (we read 2'1" as 21".. so that was unfortunate.) however we had the 2nd fastest construction time, 3rd best deflection under the load, about the third lightest, one of the best for weight/weight held efficiency, and somewhere around 6th for appearance. overall, if we hadn't been disqualified, we would have gotten 3rd and qualified for nationals... but sadly, no nationals. our surveying team got 1st, they had already finished all of their calculations and everything before any of the other teams were out of the field doing their sightings. pretty sweet. overall for the conference, our school got 2nd place. it was our best finish ever, and we were only 2nd by 7 points. had our bridge not gotten disqualified, we would've been 1st by about 300 pts. so that just kinda made that part of it even worse. especially since that was the part of it that i was spending the most time on. oh well, lessons learned for next year. |
